The words "Schools Out For Summer" joy in the heart of children and often a sigh of relief for parents who are so willing to take a break from homework as their progeny. However, making a total break with the books for the summer can be problematic.
Studies have shown that children forget between 1 and 3 months of school during summer vacation. While playing at the very least, the most affected are the spelling and mathematics. Obviously, it is important that children have time to play and relax – enjoy just being kids during the summer. Young children should not be pushed into a major program of study of the pressure during the summer holidays. But parents can take measures to curb the loss of knowledge and erosion of skills.
First, keep children reading during the summer but try to work on some non-fiction and fiction reading list. Take a lesson from many experienced teachers and pick a spelling of certain words children's books to read. Perhaps the link between test results of a special reward was expected and will be spelling.
Writing is a skill that often erodes during summer, but you can give children a weekly newspaper and objective. You can write what they think of the interests of the child. They can not account for their baseball games, inventing games developed or simply a report on the books they read. There is much good literature out there asks the children if it is dry of ideas. It does not much what your child says to never spend that time writing so they can work on writing skills, and keep in groove of putting words on paper. A writing system is easier for the child to describe people, places, objects, pets and other animals, insects, and games. Lists are another easy writing system – Favorite Things, worst things, etc. Then one day, you can use the descriptions and lists to generate another fast writes.
Math skills might seem the hardest thing to work during the summer but in reality these may be the easiest. Math does not leave a book and can easily work a lot of math lessons on long journeys by car or air travel as we go on vacation for the family. Try counting car headlights (not counting by 2) while driving or fingers in a restaurant or aircraft (not counting for 5 years). Find different ways in the house, then managed to create more complex shapes. Remove children involved in the kitchen and learning about measurements. Give children a ruler and notebook and tell them to measure various objects around the house. Empty your pockets and change the lives of children and create word problems with the coins.
There are plenty of activities you can do at home tools without spending special books or programs that actively engage your child learn and help maintain their academic skills Sharp. Do not even go that they are learning, since these projects will benefit both.
