The monetary implications of 2 new babies and the effects it will have on a family are often not realised until they have arrived and parents understand completely the time constraints that come with having Twins.

The initial cost of having twins prior to their birth is soon realised when you start to add together the price tags on the selection of baby equipment available. There could be costly doctor’s bills or health insurance to pay out for dependent upon where in the world you live. Suffice to point out, it could be a worrying time for many mums and dads expecting twins especially if your new twins are not your first children. Adding another 2 to an existing family composed of one kid, two children or maybe more can suggest even bigger financial outlay for such items as larger autos or even moving home.

The requirement for two parents to work to pay the bills, against the costs of childcare can present a monetary dilemma and may not even be financially possible. But regardless of if it were possible the extra workload for a mummy of twins plus a career may be an enormous challenge in itself particularly during those early months with sleepless nights and feeding demands. A juggling act to try to strike a work/family balance could put additional stress on all the family. At the same time, managing on one income with the extra costs of 2 new babies could be a worrying proposition.

There will of course be double the nappy bill so researching the choices between disposable and real nappies is a good idea. There are pro’s and con’s for both decisions.

The same is applicable for the milk bill. If you breast feed, which many twin mums manage successfully, this will clearly be a big cost saving. Although, breast feeding twins is a personal choice and normally dictated by the family arrangement and how much support is available.

When your twins learn to walk there will be double the shoe bill. There’ll be double the clothing costs too.

Then naturally as your twins get older there will be academic costs and related expenses. It’s a sensible idea to start saving as early as possible most likely to reduce the strain later on especially if both are making for further university education. Naturally, this is sometimes easier said than done with the increasing costs of daily life.

Good planning and some info from other twin mums or dads who’ve already been through the various stages can be invaluable. As an example, twin mums and dads will tell you that it is not necessary to purchase 2 of everything and should be able to advise on which products are worthwhile and helpful when juggling 2 babies and which aren’t. Some things are just more effective with twins than others.

Recycling is good for the environment as well as a big cost saving so if you are offered hand-me-downs from friends and family grasp them with inviting hands. Particularly, baby garments are often just gently used before they grow out of them so it really isn’t always critical to buy brand new.

Planning and buying in bulk when offers appear is another way to save money. If you are using disposable nappies these can be acquired in advance as well as other baby products that you could use such us baby wipes, cotton wool, baby creams etc. Also, don’t feel the urge to buy premium brands simply because. Often the superstore own brands or lesser known brands are pretty much as good and more competitively priced.

When it comes to weaning, take a little more time and make your own purees and food for your infants; not only is home cooked food better for your tiny ones it is less expensive than buying the ready made jars.

As you can see there are many ways to scale back your outgoings with twins.
