A few guests can get together and get a big laundry basket. Place in it a long clothes line with outfits, diapers, bibs, etc. pinned to it. It can also decorate the new addition’s bedroom. This is an all-around gift that goes down great because of its usefulness.

Baby Quilt. This one’s a dandy if you (or other guests) happen to enjoy quilting and sewing. For example, look for a quilt that shows the complete alphabet on it. On each square, match the letters of the alphabet with objects that start with that letter. You can also place numbers on it. Organize your team of guests by giving each guest a part of the quilt to sew, and they can have free reign as far as embroidering, embellishing and decorating the square(s) is concerned. If the quilt is best as a wall hanging, then you can have the team bring cute little baby toys to hang on it. Use your skills as organizer to follow-up with guests so that way everybody has their responsibilities completed well before the shower, and their parts of the block signed. You can also use the quilt to add decoration and accent to the shower.

Make a scrapbook album. Make sure you don’t let the expectant mama in on the secret – have your guests write their best wishes on blank scrapbook pages. You can present this in a number of ways and settings – either before or during the shower, or at the hospital as the new mom gives birth. And don’t forget the photos if you’re giving it after!

Pass out sheets of heavy paper decorated with baby related stamps, stickers, or pictures several lines drawn on. The guests would then need to write their names, and below that, their insights on being a new parent. After everyone is through writing, you can collect the papers, place them in a cover punched with holes, and have the completed product tied together with some lace. Ask the new mom to read each piece of advice aloud. This will be entertaining as well as touching and is a nice keepsake. There is tons of room for creativity on this one.

Have each guest bring an extra gift (small item recommended) for Daddy-to-be and the host of the shower will then place them in large gift bag to present to him at the close of the party (usually after the main gifts are opened). He can open this with wifey at this point, or save it for a time when more family and friends are present.

A diaper shower too can be arranged. This would be best for those families with two babies upwards. Ask your guests to bring nothing more than a set of diapers as a gift. Families with more than one infant need as many diapers as possible, and Mom will definitely be delighted to see a veritable Rocky Mountain range of diapers. But diapers do not need to be the only gift for this shower – diapering aids such as ointments, powders and wipes can be given away too.

Casserole Shower. If you can’t think of anything to give the mom-to-be, then a Casserole Shower would be fine and dandy. Mobilize your team by having them bring any ready to cook meal, preferably a casserole that can be frozen until right after the baby’s birth. And don’t forget the list of ingredients and cooking instructions along with the containers. The convenience would be much appreciated by the new and happy mom, as well as her new baby.

Book Party. Have each guest purchase and give a copy of their favorite childhood book.
