Even if you take time to sign during your regular interactions with your baby, there is more to teaching them sign language than just talking with them. That’s necessary, of course, and you need to be consistent in using signs for objects and ideas, so the baby will learn them. But you expect the baby to learn everything else by several different means, and it’s the same with this type of learning as well. There are baby sign instructional materials like books and flash cards, and you may even buy toys that can help, but music and songs provide a very important supplement.

A great deal of the organization of the resources that teach sign language for babies is founded on the social and medical perception of early childhood development. So it’s not a surprise that the producers of these resources have incorporated music, because it has such a large part in baby learning generally.

Even the Baby Einstein regimen, which started out attempting to increase babies’ intellectual aptitude with classical music and poetry, has entered the baby sign language enterprise. It offers a video known as “My First Signs – See & Sign With Baby,” which teaches easy signs as well as speech and, of course, classical music.

Baby Signs, Inc. is more heavily and directly involved in baby sign work, and this company’s products include music, as well as books, toys and instructional videos. They have several different music bundles, including a Music CD called “If You’re Happy and You Know it.” Meanwhile, at the www.signbabies.com website you also find that in their “Signing Time” instructional packages, not only are there DVDs that teach the signs themselves, but each one has an accompanying music CD. You can also sometimes find local play groups that use music to teach signs as the children interact with each other.

Between signing videos, books, toys and CDs, you will have no lack of baby sign resources for teaching your child this new method of communication. Music has always been one of the primary learning tools for infants, and can provide yet another avenue for your own baby. It will also add an element of fun and relaxation to the learning process. Keep music in mind as one of your teaching tools as you begin to introduce sign language to your baby.

Up until a certain age most children cannot verbally communicate their needs, but through baby sign language they can tell their parents or caregivers exactly what they want. And they can do it without just pointing and grunting. Visit Best Baby Advice: Baby Sign Language to find out more about signing with babies.

When it comes to choosing a crib for your baby, it seems that the choices and constantly changing varieties increase by the day. What may start off seeming like a fairly uncomplicated task of getting a bed for your baby ends up getting more and more confusing the more you search and read various product descriptions that the individual models can offer you.

If you intend to use the convertible crib after your child outgrows his or her toddler bed, you will want to make sure the crib will convert to the right sized bed with the optional side rails. Some cribs will convert to twin-sized beds, while others convert to full-sized. Many children’s bedrooms will not have room for a full-sized bed, plus a dresser, a desk, and other furniture needed by older children. For this reason, you should look beyond the style and make sure you will be able to use the crib as long as possible.

And now – the fun part. Convertible cribs come in hundreds of different styles and colors. Choosing a style that fits with the baby’s nursery dcor will be easy – but will it also fit into a toddler’s bedroom, or even a teenager’s? Are there other pieces of furniture available that will match? Does the style look right with the crib bedding that you have in mind?

Once your baby crib has been correctly assembled, whether that be a specific infant only crib or one of Da Vinci’s more popular convertible baby cribs, such as the Emily cribs or the Anastasia cribs, giving the crib a sturdy shake will prove how strongly fitting the structure is. This should be a test you should do with any crib that you buy for your baby, whether it is Da Vinci or any other brand. If the connecting parts on the crib move upon shaking or the crib structure looks and feels unstable, then ensure that the fittings are correct and tightened adequately, or if they are, then the crib itself just may be of poor quality. A Da Vinci crib does not feel unstable

The New Haven crib by Bassett looks very Shaker style in appearance. All four sides are straight with simple, thin elegant slats on three sides. The headboard has narrow wainscoting. The rails are square edged, with the rails on the sides having the slightest of curves. This Bassett crib is made from solid beech with beech veneers and comes in two finishes; cherry and natural – in my opinion the cherry is definitely the better finish.
